Festival of the birth of the eternal Light

OM Anandamayi, Chaitanyamayi, Satyamayi, Parame
OM Mother of Delight, Mother of Consciousness,
Mother of Truth, O Supreme, Jayastute namastute
Victory to Thee, Salutations to Thee
Sarvam Khalhidam, Brahman:
All is verily divine.  The Divine is truly all
Rises a rich-textured chorus of adoration from a crowd of pilgrim souls.
In the solemn night streaked with beams of light hundred lovely bodies
full of grace and strong dance across the field of an incredulous vision,
Like a stream of ecstasy undulating through pillars of sapphire,
And carved statues of godheads frozen in bronze and granite.

Buddham saranam gatcchami, Dammam saranam gatcchami
Take refuge in Buddha; Take refuge in the Word of the Lord,
Echo and reecho the distant hills in meditation,
Disciples of the desireless, egoless, equal souled compassion.

Vedic mantras float and reverberate in the sacred air.
Satyam, Ritam, Jyotih, Brihat
The Truth, the Law, the Light, the Infinity are now sovereign Lords.
The Long night is at last over, the Sun of Truth illumines and guides our steps.

Praying hands and bodies burning with aspiration offer sacrifice in the mounting Fire.
Words old and new in many tongues and voices  mingle in a glorious riot of tone colours.
Bodies radiate in rhythmic movements,  the vast organ swell of an unalloyed delight,
A scattered rainbow broken into a hundred scintillating shifting fragments.
Woodwinds, drums and trumpets, harp, cymbals and bells,
Passionate violins, grave cellos and mixed choir of chanting voices,
Urge the impetuous dancers to dare the impossible,
To renounce the animal and discover our identity with God and Soul.
Bodies caught in a whirlpool of celestial rapture,  sway and swing, run and rush,
solo or in groups amidst a sweeping gale of maddening high-paced music,
Tearing us away with an irresistible might
From the ancient moorings of our unbearable night and agony.

In the name of God, in the name of God,
O God the Great, O God the Merciful.
The hero worshippers dance and slash and hew a straight path
Through the demon hordes which deny the Will of the One.
Ave Maria sends the soul soaring to the embrace of the Mother Divine.

Bodies possessed by the divinities of beauty and harmony
and the Soma wine  dance intoxicated as in a trance
And oblige the psychic buds to blossom by their charm.
The soul repeats the mantra:
May I be Thy slave, May I be Thy slave.

Yogis and saints, sculptors, poets, musicians and painters
Followers of the Truth, lovers of the Supreme and His Avatars,
Bring their bountiful generous gift of melodies interwoven and harmonies
Piled higher and higher to the skies, and drive the dancers in the effort
To seize and embody a transmutative ray of the never setting Sun of Truth.
The audience surrenders in joy to the magic of the ceremony,
The soul-filling panorama of sound, form, colour and light.
A grandiose pyramidal aspiration rises and rises to the Heavens,
To the immaculate crystal throne, where the Mother receives the prayers
Offered by the reverent assembly of souls.

Benediction, love and light, Benediction, Benediction.
The fortunate multitude, aspiring pilgrim souls in deep concord
Coverging on Her from all dim corners of the earth,
Seated in silence and wonder under the starlit open sky
Hypnotised by Her tangible delight and the sweetness of Her Presence,
Celebrate the Festival of the birth of the Eternal Light.
Showers of blessings, showers of love, showers of peace,
Sprinkle the air, purify the Earth and Soul.
Fountains of aspiration, fountains of heavenly dreams
Shoot upwards a myriad sparks
In the boundless space of the hushed soul.
Thy Will be done, Thy Will be done, Thy Will be done,
Whispers the ravished Earth faint and vibrating under
The exquisite touch of footsteps compelled by a felicitous rhythm.
A powerful interchange of currents between Matter and Spirit
Forces open the sealed passages for a dynamic transformation.

Ekaibaham jagattatra, Kadrvitia mama para.
I alone am in this universe; who else is there apart from me?
The triumphant proclamation of the Mother Divine
Assures the suppliant soul.

Sri Aurobindo saranam mama - Sri Aurobindo is my refuge.
Om Anandamayi, Chaitanyamayi,
Satyamayi, Parame’Jayastute namastute.

Acceptance

Once we learn to hand over the responsibility of our life and its thousand changing circumstances to the Divine, who is no other than our highest Self, then there is less confusion, less stress and strain and the being acquires a state of permanent relaxation inside and outside. More and more I realise that what we do is far less important than what we become. We must remain open to the Mother Force as much as possible, for this we must be peaceful, free from useless emotional upheavals and the flood of uncoordinated thoughts. We must become simple The big world problems and their solutions are far too big for us anyway. Some things we seem to know but most of the things we do not know. This acceptance of wide ignorance is a relieving wisdom. Let us admit that we know very little of anything. Then a new light will grow and another vision of the existence will be revealed to us, unknown to man ‑ the mysterious Divine Presence eternal and unfathomable.

Let us pray for peace in the being.

Listen With Your Heart

My heart is like a huge cathedral, a temple rising to the sky,
Illumined with Love, filled with the perfume of Love.
Softly resounding with the organ-choir music of Love.
An invisible breeze refreshing, healing all the agonies and wounds
Greets one and all, good ones, bad ones, prophets and monsters,
The sick and healthy, the nuns and harlots, the hard and the gentle ones
With a silent adoring Love which sees the Divine in all.

The cathedral Temple needs constant expansion in all direction
To house birds, animals, living beings on land, sea and air,
For whom to reject: In the tiniest worm and flower and pebble
Shines the Lord, the Great One who puts on the humblest robes.
Love circulates unseen through all hearts, unhindered by any wall.
Your violence, selfishness, blind littleness, your grief and shame
Will disappear forever, if you come out of your cocoon in the open,
Break the rock fortress of ego, your self-made prison of hatred,
Anger, disdain, your born distrust of others, even of your own brother.

Love in disguise is at your door begging,
Invite the Stranger to your table.
Darkness will be swallowed up by the radiant yet soothing Love,
Division cured by Love,
Becomes myriad souls throbbing with a single impulse.
Suffering faints in the mighty embrace of a sublimating sweetness,
The psyche in man and beast, plant and stone
Yearns for Love day and night.

Love is knocking at your door.
Listen with your heart.
Welcome the Mother.

The aim is to embody the New Consciousness not to perfect human life

Our sole exclusive aim in life is to rise out of our present unhappy, obscure and confused state of consciousness into the divine luminous blissful consciousness, the gnostic or the Supramental consciousness brought down in the earth evolution by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.  The Supreme Shakti, the Divine transforming Force is constantly pressing down on all existence here on earth for the creation of a new divine race.  Naturally all those who consciously aspire for the Divine consciousness will be helped in every possible way by the Supreme Mother Force.  These beings will be in one way or other put into contact with people having similar aspiration. Individually or collectively in small groups they will practice the integral yoga elaborately developed by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.  The essence of the yoga can be expressed in a few words.  There cannot be any change, let alone the supramental transformation without the descent and regular flow of the Mother Force from above into the surrendered adhara.  The Force will eliminate, replace and transform all that is human, obscure and undivine in us and gradually create in man, the image of the Divine.  The process is very long, extremely difficult, even dangerous because we desperately cling to our congenital human ignorant imperfections.  Where the psychic being is developed, well crystallised, the Power can relatively more easily transform the obstinate recalcitrant ignorant elements in the being.  There must be a constant one-pointed call from below to the Supreme Mother Force above our head and beyond for with Her luminous descent, this impossible transformation becomes not only possible but is slowly realised.

When we see the Eternal, All-Blissful, absolute Perfection in all things, beings and forces and happenings behind the thickest, the most perverting disguises and coverings, then only our seeing is the right seeing and our relation to the Eternal All-Blissful Divine is an unbroken delight and adoration.

Men and women running in all directions in frenzy and utter confusion propelled by ignorant, violent passions and desires in search of a satisfying drink to quench their fiery thirst, hurting, wounding, destroying others while all the time each one has in his depths an inexhaustible fountain of Amritam, the divine immortal delight-filled nectar.  O Mother Divine, by Your magic touch, remove the heavy stone sitting on the mouth of this hidden inner fountain and transform this scorched earth into a paradise of heavenly blooms.

It is impossible to see, even imagine the Divine working in the world with our limited human consciousness.  We always see and judge at best with our moral ideas of good and bad, divine and undivine, right and wrong.  We do not see the world as a progressive manifestation of the Divine, who is the constituting element of everything in existence.  The mind at present is the highest power of consciousness in the entire human race with the exception of an insignificant minority where the Divine is preparing the instruments for the manifestation of the Supramental.  We are not here to perfect the humanity or the human life but to embody this new Consciousness with the constant guidance and all-powerful help of the Mother Divine.  It is an extremely difficult adventure in a hostile violent world.  The victory comes in peace and silence of the Divine union.

The Source and Origin

I am aware of an Absolute Power and Wisdom and Love which is the Origin and Source of all that exists here and beyond. Just as a tree grows out of a seed, in the same way the world is moving towards a glorious, luminous future. Nothing happens to us which is not already determined. By a total surrender to the Divine Mother without insisting on the fulfillment of our own ideas and desires; by accepting whatever She decides for us and others; by rejecting always everything that comes from the dark, ignorant, lower, vital, mental consciousness; by a growing faith and confidence in the Divine Mother, we are freed from all suffering and enter into an ever happy and harmonious consciousness, and live always in the Presence Divine.

This is the only goal of our life.

Nowadays I have no plans and projects. As I get in touch with a higher consciousness, I feel as if I have a diseased brain. What appears to us as the normal consciousness seen from Above is an absurd, lamentable madness; the body an uncertain, decaying, precarious, animal structure, miraculously kept in order by an Infinite Grace. So my whole concentration is to establish the true consciousness. To see the Divine in every being, in all events and movements, shaping, organising, preparing the world for a higher manifestation. The Great Mother is constantly at work. Her mission is to create a divine race on earth. We must never forget Her, but allow Her to work for transformation in our consciousness.
May we want only what She wants.
May we never stand in Her way, in Her work of transformation in us.
May we be faithful to Her and collaborate with Her fully.
May we be always completely under Her divine influence.
The Mother is real. No one, nothing can stand in Her way.
She is our Guide and Pathfinder.

Prayer of the Mother from the Book "Prayers and Meditations"

Thy Love is like a rising tide, invading the entire being and breaking upon all things. Lord, Thy love will penetrate all hearts and kindle in them the divine flame which never goes out, the divine beauty which does not fade, and above every contrast and contradiction, it will establish in all that unchanging Bliss which is the supreme Good.

Thy Light is like a rising tide, invading the entire being and breaking upon all things. Lord, thy Light will penetrate all thoughts and create in them that sovereign clarity which does not waver, the divine clearsightedness which never errs, and above every contrast and contradiction, it will establish in all the splendour of Thy knowledge which is the supreme Wisdom.

Thy Force is like a rising tide, invading the entire being and breaking upon all things. Lord, Thy force will penetrate all life and create in it the effective strenght which never fails, the divine power which is invincible, and, above every contrast and contradiction, it will establish in all Thy mastering energy which is the supreme Will.

Meditation - God is all, All is in God, everything is God

God is all, All is in God, each and everyone, everything is God.
Whatever may be the form or nature, inert or active, disguised, masked
Hidden or partly revealed, sleeping or awake, now, yesterday, tomorrow,
Near or far, dead or alive, all existence visible or invisible or extinct,
All is the Divine, sustained by the Divine, inhabited by the Divine.
If there is a Nothingness, a Void, a Nihil, that too is filled with the Divine.

All exists in God's body, like the incalculable fishes and animals in the ocean.
Each insect, animal, fish, aquatic bird is a mystic symbol of the ocean.
They have no existence without the ocean, but the existence of the ocean
Does not depend on all it contains yet the germ of all life hides in its womb.
The evolution is the gradual awakening and ascent of the sleeping God,
Towards his own supreme heights covered with silent dazzling light.

God in man has become a conscious seeker of his endless perfection,
Keeps the man running without respite, makes his heart burn with desire,
Feeds him with a strong brew of discontent to the edge of precipice.
The Godhead in the immortal soul of man grows stronger every moment,
By numberless births and deaths and ever shifting dramas of human life.

When the inner light shines brightly, flooding his mind, life and body
With its transforming radiance, man emerges out of darkness,
Suffering and agony of death into a luminous ocean of divine felicity.
The mortal man steps into a blissful deathless, timeless Infinite life,
One with all creation, all living beings in a clasp of identity,
United in a boundless wordless undeviating divine rapture.
All the man-made barriers of clan, creed, family, race, colour and religion
Like so many chains preventing the mighty soar of his soul simply fade away.
God calls him from all sides, all eyes and flowers, the sun, the moon and the stars,
Soham, soham, soham, I am this one, that one, everyone, love me ever more.

O my Lord, Sweet Mother thrice welcome,

remain with us, so much as yet is to be done.
Thy gracious Will be done, Victory of Thy blissful Love in all yearning souls.

The Power of Peace

There is a spontaneous automatic result of the identification when one lives totally in that indivisible eternal Reality, when one becomes a center of manifestation of that Reality. This state can be described like this:  We see that the least thing is accomplished by the Divine. It is the eternal play of the infinite Divine who unveils Himself in space and time. We live in a total indivisible unity. We become a center of divine love which is infinitely other than the human love, infinitely superior to it, as if we become a center of the divine action which above all acts by peace, by the force of the peace of God. This peace pacifies violence, acts in order to limit and contain violence,  war and  revolution. There is another aspect of this power of peace - it will first progressively eliminate the principal elements, the asuric forces which disturb the peace, incarnate the force of violence and division and defy the law of truth, light and harmony. Then little by little it will act on the totality of consciousness on the earth in order to eliminate all obscurity, all violence, all perversity in the race. But naturally this will take a long time.

There is another aspect of peace which is a very fundamental realization. Once this peace is established, one is entirely liberated from all relative cosmic movements and manifestation. One loses one's identity in the Divine beyond and above all creation. One becomes truly a zero, inexistent. There is no longer any personal choice, liking or preference. There is no haste or struggle or even effort to achieve or realize anything for the Eternal is constantly present in the consciousness. The Divine was not unhappy yesterday. He will not be happier tomorrow than he is today. He is ever fulfilled in His delight of existence.

Once we realize  peace,  we are liberated from the grip and strain and stress of time and cosmic movement, and all action proceeds from this state of liberty. There is actually nothing to achieve, nothing to accomplish. This realization is the key for any action in the world. If one does not have this realization, one cannot freely undertake the Divine Work. The Divine is the doer, but He is no longer hidden by His actions to the soul liberated in peace. The more there will be beings who could incarnate that force of peace, living in union with the Divine, the more the process of pacification and purification and awakening will be hastened.

Therefore, the best ways to serve humanity are identical. We should give ourselves more and more to the Divine ~ the Divine who is far beyond all the religions, even far beyond the traditional spiritual experiences in a gnostic consciousness, well beyond the frontiers of the highest degree of mind, far beyond into what is known as the Kingdom of the Golden Sun where there is no night, no obscurity, no suffering, no division, where there is only the infinity of God, of the One, the unfathomable Mystery, the One eternal Consciousness and Delight.

On the way -humility, purification, help of the grace divine

As the soul will grow inside through aspiration and fire for realization, we will begin to feel more and more tangibly the extended hand of the Divine Mother, always ready to take us over the most dangerous grounds, protecting us from disastrous back breaking falls, calling us on with Her friendly voice, full of love and tenderness towards a joy and liberty, free from all undivine influences.

This is my constant prayer to Kali, that She may intervene always and make it impossible for me to do the smallest wrong movement in speech, thought and action.  The work for purification is long, difficult and one must be very patient, one must have an untiring endurance.  There is no need to put the sackcloth on the back but to make a strong resolution, not to repeat the mistake, not to betray our noble ideal, our sublime spiritual destiny.  These mistakes often have a stabilizing effect and show us very clearly how far we still are from the simple path of Light and Truth.  Each fall has a salutary effect on our spiritual development for it pricks the bubble of our arrogance, destroys the delusion of our spiritual greatness.  We fall on the ground and what a blessing it is.  It is an hour of Grace with great humility.  We rise again determined to remain pure, determined to take up the sacred priesthood in the Temple of the Mother Divine.

Once the soul grows, then all the inferior movements so natural to man naturally drop away.  There is not even an effort required to get rid of them.  These inferior movements become foreign, unacceptable, even extremely painful to the awakened soul.  That is the sure sign that now one is on the highway of the divine realization.  We can never get rid of our inferior instincts by our own effort.  We must be simple and utterly humble and feel the total helplessness, the impotency of our own force and call on the divine Power to purify and raise us.  We must not cover our face with shame but must have courage to expose ourselves fully, consciously to the supremely blessed Light of the Mother Divine.  She does not criticize.  Nor does She look down upon us.  Once we have sought Her help, She can never abandon us.  She is kind, gentle, compassionate, full of understanding with Her tenderness, She heals the inner wounds and gives us strength to follow the destined path.  We must have an absolute confidence in Her.  She is most pleased when we are entirely frank, sincere, open and simple like a child in Her Presence and tell Her everything.  She is unbelievably near to us always caring for us, always ready to intervene, always shedding Her Light in our being to awaken us to the spiritual existence, to the Divine Presence, to the splendor of the Supreme Being who is all, beyond all, eternal and infinite.  She is leading us step by step slowly and steadily to that vision when we shall be in the presence of That which has no name, which is not conditioned by the appearances or forms beyond all relativity, That Divine who is and was and will be always the most unfathomable, the most mysterious yet the most intimate and wonderful and ecstatic Person, Existence, Source, the only thing real.

Blessed is the one who has ever plunged into the spiritual life with the name of the Mother Divine.  For him there is no defeat, there is no failure, no death, no cessation for one day he will most certainly live in Her absolute Presence sustained by Her love, impelled to life and action by Her love.
