The Hidden Fountain-in a sweet dream I have met a messenger

Who told me the secret of a fountain I carry within myself.

I have to die to myself and all I am, to be reborn.
The cherished trails have to be abandoned without regret.
I must be an incurable optimist in the face of a thousand negations.
I must follow the guiding Hand like a dog on a leash without complaint.
Then only shall I find the hidden fountain in my heart,
And never face thirst again or have to run after barren mirages.
Then I shall pitch my tent, where palm trees, oasis, lakes,
Deep wells, fountains, cities with towers and temple bells
Will envelop me with their music of peace and harmony.
But I must not quit the desert for a remote heaven, griefless.
One by one, more and more will discover the inner Fountain.
Slowly, steadily, not noticed by others,
A noble race, affranchised from thirst, hunger and mirages,
Shall follow new opulent trails.

The deep peace of the desert settles in my soul.
Accompanied by an invisible tangible Presence,
I leave the familiar trail and seek out unfrequented
High plateaus in the hottest unfriendly no-man’s land.
There, far away from the curious and uncaring travelers,
I contemplate my newly won treasure.
A starving soul suddenly surrounded with food unlimited,
A thirsty mouth filled with paradisiacal beverage,
A hopeless loneliness surcharged with mighty Magnificence,
An empty future burdened with auspicious unborn events,
I sit numb with delight not believing my miraculous Fate.
The huge barren unending waste of desert land
Is blotted out by a vision of a blissful, Temple-garden.
A celestial music floats up to me through its wide-open gates.

As a bee enters the core of a flower drawn by its fragrance,
My soul, dancing with light steps enters the flowery Sanctuary.
There I see the sweet Mother radiant on a throne.
Like a child bursting with happiness it can hardly contain,
I throw myself at Her lovely feet.
She laughs and laughs
And the joyous fountain scatters sparkling silver.

The Mother Divine is my unfailing Friend and guardian Power.
My thirst is quenched.

The mysterious dust

A dry leaf, yesterday it was living, today it is dead. In a week it will be dust and food for many young: plants. And it will reappear as flowers and fruits. It will be transformed into the musing eyes of the poets. Each seed contains a mysterious tree, it branches hides the symphonies of Beethoven.
What is man but, a seed amongst seeds, nourished by the dust, by the earth, his dreams are contained in the petals of rose, in the fragrance of Jasmine, in the green leaves of lettuce and cabbage.
What a marvellous substance this dust. It has been said “ From the dust thou comest, to the dust thou returnest” How true, How wonderful!
This mysterious dust of the stars which contains all the eternity imprisoned in its magical trance. The bodies of the most luminous gods are made from this mysterious dust, which contains all and becomes all. Is there any dust at all anywhere? Isn’t the very substance of the body of the infinite and eternal Mystery whom we call God, the Divine!
Where is death? A living shadow changes into a dreamless sleep of the stardust.
What am I ? A floating dream on a midnight stream.
Am I a failure? How can it be? When I am the deep satisfaction of the yearning rocks to have a body and a mind and a heart and capacity to love and hate, feel and be.
All around me is that marvellous mysterious formless, nameless substance containing all, all that has gone before lies there as beautiful strains of music heard long ago. All that is here at the moment, is an explosion of the hidden beauty and ravishment and all the future lies visibly hidden in the tree like the bud, the flower and the fruit yet unborn. Each speck of that dust contains me a thousandfold. I am this face, I am those dances marvellous arms, I am that senile ol d man throwing his wisdom to all the winds, I am that magnificent godhead of the vision, I am a speck of dust infinitely same as any other grain of dust.
My body falls, my soul is fragmented like the moon on the troubled bosom of the lake.
I am, I do not exist, nor do you, nor he, she or anyone. We are dreams living visionary symbols rising out of the star dust that unnamable basic substance of all the universes in existence or yet to come. Our hells, heavens, passions and yearnings lie forever safe in the magical case of a grain of dust.
A dry leaf falls into dust, rises in the iris of the visionary probing the depth of Eternity and Infinity.

An invisible sun is illuminating the earth. The old world is now exposed to its rays

As if an invisible sun is illuminating the earth The old world created by mind and separative ego is now exposed to the rays of the one divine consciousness and Being, more like a radioactive cloud covering the entire globe. Its constant radiation is destroying all that is based on separation and division, transmuting whatever can be transmuted. All the alloys will be burnt out leaving only the pure gold. In this vast consciousness, there is no strong sense of individuality to begin with – that is to say when we are just touched by it.Read more

On physical transformation. The human consciousness must be replaced by the divine consciousness

The human consciousness must be sublimated, transformed and replaced by the spiritual and divine consciousness. The suffering is an inseparable intrinsic attribute and substance of the normal human consciousness. That is to say, as long as we are human with the human consciousness, the suffering is inevitable. True happiness, delight, ananda is an attribute, an intrinsic dynamic principle and substance of the spiritual and divine consciousness. Unconditional, unalloyed, ever present, luminous joy is inherent in the spiritual and divine consciousness, its very substance. It is only by the discovery of the divine consciousness and by the gradual and increasing union with the Divine that we become ultimately free from suffering once for all. The suffering is the inevitable result and consequence of all our inferior human attributes, qualities and actions and of unillumined movements of mental and vital consciousness. Desires, search and satisfaction of pleasures, greed, jealousy, ambition, search for power, position and name, falsehood, self assertion, anger, cruelty, violence, all these elements are natural attributes of the human consciousness and they cannot be eliminated or suppressed, controlled by the mental vital effort alone. By high spiritual powers, high spiritual consciousness, they are refined, controlled but not eliminated. Only the grace of the Mother Divine, the supramental consciousness, the divine consciousness, gnosis has the absolute power of transmuting them into its own substance of force, delight and consciousness, its inalienable unity and oneness.

Man must become divine in order to be entirely free from the mental, vital consciousness and its natural attributes and qualities. That means, to be entirely divine, his mind, life and the body too must be divinised. Even if we attain spiritual peace and calm and other higher realizations our body remains subject to pain, thirst, hunger, disease, decomposition and death. Even in the Vedas, we find recorded such facts. So, to be truly happy, we must have a body free from pain, thirst and hunger, fatigue and disease, degeneration and if possible death, at least, accidental death, that is to say forced or unwilling exit from life. Death too must become a willful act of the soul, not imposed on us. It is here that the yoga of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo is fundamentally different from the traditional spirituality in India and elsewhere. Because a real way of divinising mind, life and especially the body could not be found, the  solution of illusionism was adopted, which completely paralysed life and eventually all spiritual  endeavour. To be really happy, we must have a divine body, transformed radically in its form and function, in its very substance and constitution. Up till now some yogas have attempted to achieve the physical immortality. In ancient Egypt the attempt was made over thousands of years to find the secret of physical immortality, which they achieved but in a sad way, through mummification of dead bodies. In Greece, there was an attempt to find physical perfection and beauty and harmony.  In ancient China, Japan, there have been various attempts of prolonging the life of the body through physical and spiritual means, specially by bringing a universal calm and tranquility and peace in their mind, life and body.   Though man has always dreamed of an immortal glorious body, in actual practice in all these attempts, we find that there is no conception of transforming the actual body and its functionings, but only an attempt of prolonging the life of this body as it is, probably with a little refining of its actions, reactions and functions.  The Mother and Sri Aurobindo tell us that if we can get in contact with the divine consciousness beyond mind, the supramental truth consciousness and open ourselves to the supramental divine Shakti, then she will gradually transform our mind, life and finally the body into a divine mind, a divine life and a divine body. Through much experience it has been found that the body of an aspirant, though animal in its character and origin, can open and receive the divine Shakti far more easily and with greater positive consequences and effecti vity than the mind and the vital part in an ordinary man can do.  Since we are primarily embodied souls, that is to say, our soul, mind consciousness, vital consciousness are expressed or manifested through the body, the body itself is the expression of the soul and the mental and the vital consciousness in evolution. So, if we can open the body directly to the influence and power of the divine consciousness, the body will necessarily be transformed though gradually and extremely slowly by the descent of the higher consciousness into the body. The mental and the vital powers and faculties can be considered as attributes of the present body and if the transforming divine Shakti comes in the body, they too will be necessarily transformed. The mental and the vital consciousness in man being nearer to the subtle substance of the divine consciousness can and will undergo a relatively quick transformation. The body though it is more receptive has been built on such a solid and stable basis, that transformation may take centuries. Though once started the process will lead to the final result inevitably, if that be the intention and destiny of the individual soul.

Action of the transforming force 4

I felt the Divine wants to pour down his transforming felicity through my instrumental being.  I played the organ, at the same time a thousand orchestras seemed to be playing.  I don’t know what others heard.  This music was filling the whole earth and sky, the whole creation.  I myself never heard such powerful harmonious, intolerable felicity.  When I played I was not playing, it was a tremendous power of harmony flowing through me, playing through me.  All I can say, I do not know how I have survived.  It was only by the grace of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo constantly present protecting me, so that I would not explode.  I can hardly sleep because of the vibrating presence of that force.Read more
